About this page: Cruising around
Glacier Bay and the outer waters is truly enjoyable. While the
area gets its fair share (and even more than that) of rain, the
sunny days and warm weather does eventually show up and when it
does it is fantastic. The water glimmers a thousand shades of
turquoise, the sky is blue from shore to shore, mountains capped
with ancient white glaciers reach to the heavens and the air is
100% fresh! Surrounded by nature’s beauty as we relax in the
cockpit of the sailboat with a steamy espresso and a fresh baked
treat is worthy of enduring all the rainy days. |

About this photo: “Pssst! Come over
here, I’ve got a secret!”
Drifting by as they lazily paddle by with their huge rear
flippers, a Sea Otter turns as if to whisper a secret
message. Suddenly, like a corkscrew, he twists around while
still swimming forward and comes to rest again on his back.
Continuing on his way with an occasional paddle of his rear
flippers and he propels himself along to once again join up
with his companions. |

About this photo: “Taken your copper
supplements lately?!”
This photo shows the Bodine electric motor on The Mad Dogs’
Spectra Catalina watermaker. After 4 years of use, this
copper commutator shows, in our opinion, quite significant
wear. While the Catalina watermaker has done a great job of
producing excellent, clean water, the cost of spare parts
from Spectra are outrageously priced. Fortunately we found
another source for the brushes at less than 1/3 what Spectra
charged. Although the Spectra Catalina watermaker has
performed well, providing us with lots of fresh water, the
expensive parts have impacted negatively on the overall
rating of the Spectra Catalina Watermaker on The Mad Dog’s
review.

About this photo: “Perfect!! Hold it
right there while I get this photo!”
Spending some time in Gustavus visiting with some of our
friends was rewarded with a little more clear weather.
Walking through the woods, we came upon this bumblebee
working like mad! Buzzing from one flower to next, as if
looking for hidden treasure, it took less than a minute for
this “busy bee” to look in every flower on this bush and
decide there was nothing here for him. A loud “Bzzzzzzz!”
and he was out of sight. |

About this photo: A “priceless” photo
of a Princesses rear…. or “A floating apartment block??”
Having just picked up the Interpretive Park Rangers upon
entering Glacier Bay, Diamond Princess, one of the Princess
Cruise Ships, heads up bay with a boatload of eager
tourists. During the peak summer season, there are two
cruise ships daily that enter Glacier Bay. They pick up the
Rangers at the entrance to the Bay and these Rangers offer
interpretive services and answer questions about Glacier
Bay. Fortunately for these visitors, the sky was only
lightly overcast with a chance of breaking up later in the
day. Enjoy! |
