The Junior Forest Wardens
The Alberta Junior Forest Wardens is a youth organization sponsored by
the Alberta Forestry Service in the province of Alberta in Canada. For several years, Dean and
Leo
belonged to the Junior Forest Wardens, Dean as a Junior Forest Warden
and Leo as a leader. However, unlike many other youth groups the leaders
in the Junior Forest Wardens were 100% involved with and doing the exact
same activities as the kids. Activities were varied and included such
events as cross-country ski trips (both local and several multi-day
trips in the the winter, spring, summer and fall seasons in the Canadian Rocky Mountains), canoeing, snow cave building,
working on controlled field burns, assisting at the University of the Alberta Elk Farm along with general outdoor related fun.
During our time with the Junior Forest Wardens, the Alberta Forestry
Service made goods and services available to the groups. These included
camp tents with wood-burning stoves, canoes, vehicles, camping gear
(sleeping bags, tents, etc) and anything else associated with the
outdoors, forestry and camping.
Both of us met new people and made good friends with our fellow
Junior Forest Wardens and are glad to be able to include and apply these
experiences to our current lifestyle. If you are looking for and want to
join a youth group that offers true adventure and excitement, look for a
local chapter/group of Junior Forest Wardens. As an organization, we
highly recommend them to any young person, male or female
