Manson Supreme Anchor
Update: Aug 15, 2008
Since leaving Victoria, BC on our trip to
Glacier Bay National Park,
Alaska, we have used our Supreme anchor exclusively. Our ground
tackle consists of a 45 lb / 20 kg Manson Supreme anchor attached by a
swivel to 198' / 60 m of 5/16" / 8mm galvanized chain. The entire
package is finished off by being braided to 3/8" / 10 mm 3-strand nylon
rope (for those extra deep situations).
During our trip, while we have only stopped in marinas or tied at docks
a handful of times, we have anchored and relied exclusively on our
ground tackle with the Manson Supreme leading the way. While we like to
have a 5:1 anchoring scope, sometimes this gets reduced to 3:1. We have
never once dragged or moved while the Manson Supreme held us in place.
Even during 3 days in Port McNeill, BC, with sustained winds of 30 kts
and a continuous swell, the Manson Supreme held fast!
We can't give the Manson Supreme more than 5 out of 5, but it does get 5
out of 5 and two thumbs up from the Mad Dogs!
Manson Supreme Anchor
Safety is a large factor while sailing around the world and you want
to make sure you stay put while anchored. Therefore
Mad Dog Voyager is outfitted with the Manson Supreme, the next
generation in anchor technology and the best anchor you can buy for
our type of vessel. The highest holding - fastest
setting - fixed shank anchor in the world. A surprise bonus design
feature was that the anchor was developed with a dual operation
shank to enable use in rock and coral seabed types.
The anchor has been extensively reviewed and tested by Lloyds
Register of Shipping and has received a SHHP (Super High Holding
Power) status. The first and only production boat anchor in the
world to do so. Lloyds Type Approval Certificate Number SPA-ANCH0062.
This unit is also available in stainless steel for those that like shiny
objects.
